Round world ticket?

I am planning to go travelling round the world and I am looking for some advice and tips. I am planning to go for 2 months and a half. I want to do stopovers in Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, south pacific – most probably tahiti and then go to LA or SF in USA. Iam not sure what agency is the best to go through to. I am not sure about the budget and accommodation. Can you recommend some good, clean and safe hostels? Iam in my early thirties so I guess I am not looking for a hostel full of young teenagers. What places are best to visit in these places and what other things are good to remember? Thanks.

use a ravel agent that specialises in long haul, rtw tickets. I went a few years ago and used trail finders. You can get flexi dates on your ticket, so if you really love a place, you can stay a bit longer, or leave sooner.

I was given a booklet with hostel names on it, but the best advice is to look up, the rough guide or lonely planet books. Most hostels are ok, but I found the ones in the US generally a bit rough. Try get rooms that sleep only 4 people, it’ll cost extra, but is worth the price.
There is a website, http://thorntree.lonelyplanet.com/ it gives great advice from other travellers to travellers.
a bit like YA, for backpackers.

Enjoy your trip, you’ll never regret it……..and SF is 10 times better than LA
